In some cases your home could have what are known as 'Permitted Development Rights' which will allow you to construct certain small extensions without requiring planning consent.

These rules only apply to houses, so if you live in an apartment you will not have permitted development rights. If you live in a house you should check its status, if it has had previous extensions then the permitted development rights may have been used. If you live in a listed building again you will not be able to extend it without consent.

If you are in any doubt you should check with your local planning office or contact one of our experienced architects here at project home who will be happy to advise you.
